Homeland

Pressed flower petals, tengucho paper, thread

Quilting has always been considered women's work, speaking of patience, preservation, and the transformative power of community and creativity. By incorporating pressed flower petals into this traditionally feminine medium, I honor the historical connection between women and the natural world — a bond that has been both celebrated and suppressed throughout human history. Women have historically served as bridges between humanity and the earth through their roles as healers, gardeners, and mothers. Through creating quilts — symbols of home and healing — from literal nature itself, Homeland explores the truth that nature is our true home. The collection invites viewers to rediscover feminine principles as guiding forces for our collective future: cooperation instead of competition, compassion instead of exploitation, and nurturance instead of depletion. These are the threads that must be woven into our relationship with the earth if we are to find our way forward.
